If you go to New York, you have to go to S.O.B's - short for 'Son's Of Brasil'. I don't think I've ever had a bad night there. There are always album release parties, Hot 97 parties and some of the best artists in the city regularly perform there. Amazingly it's a real intimate space, nothing stush, just great music.

So that's where I saw Joell Ortiz rip the pants out the joint, and New York loves him. Serious, he knows how to rock a crowd, his presence is large and he spits fire. I heard he was giving away some computers in the projects so I went over to Brooklyn to see what was going on. It took me ages to find the place I kept walking past it!

Sure enough, there he was, signing autographs for the kids. We talked about a lot of things, and he told me how good it felt to give back, and how he used to think that his whole life would be in Cooper projects... how times change!

The day started out ok, but it got bitter cold as it went on. Trust me, you don't wanna get caught out in that cold unprepared! The wind whips like a samuri!

Vonjeff hooked me up with Steve from Allhiphop.com, a cool guy, who obviously knows a lot about the New York scene. We discussed fashion and parties in a very nice bar in Lower East Side.

Back in Brooklyn, I linked Scott Sasso, owner of 10Deep clothing, a label I'd seen a lot of during my travels. I hadn't realised they'd done a mixtape with Kid Cudi. I saw over and over again how creative New Yorkers are, and how so many different agancies and genres crossover to benefit themselves and each other. I got a vert hot 10Deep T Shirt out of that meeting, which is pretty good, as they don't do many threads for the ladies (trust me, I complained).

My boy Arthur took me to 105 Rivington, a gorgeous hotel club where they're a bit picky on the door. You know the type - you have to wear the right shoes or be seen with the right people to get in. Don't get it twisted though, it certainly wasn't a too cool to dance crowd. The atmosphere was electric, and the B Boys were hitting the floor hard! I had a couple of cocktails and wathed the party goers for a while before diving right in! The music was just too good to resist!

I've seen NYOIL live in New York a couple of times. I think he's an amazingly talented man who deserves more exposure. Very political, very straight-forward; he consistently releases good quality hip hop. Go look him up!

A highlight was going to the mixtape awards. Matt from Datsound and Harry from Jump Off TV sorted us passes and we scooted over the red carpet past a heap of bustling press to take our seats for the show. Mixtape DJs from far and wide and their crews filled the place. It was here I met Buckshot, and interviewed him about what he was up to. Actually, I'd seen him a few days earlier and we'd been working on sorting an interview so it was good timing! First thing I clocked was his amethyst necklace. Dude got the knowledge, and a lot of interesting things to say!
