REVIEW: Industry Takeover Part 3 - The Launch, October 7th

Industry Takeover doesn’t come around too often but when it does it makes a lasting impression. Industry Takeover is the spot for aspiring music professionals to come together and meet veterans in the industry that have been there, done it and got the t- shirt.

First to grace the stage was Soneni who got the audience swaying to the beat of her single, ‘Starstruck’. Her soulful sound powered over the bass while she added a little Funk into the mixture. Next up emcee, Tenny Ten quickly put to rest the idea that he was a poet “you do one song without a beat and suddenly you’re poet.” Tenny got the audience to interact with the Hip Hop-influenced ‘Jump’ that saw audience members shouting “jump jump” in time with the beat as he showed a more vulnerable side as he talked from the point of view of someone considering to jump off a building. The moving lyrics showed helplessness and substance as he toyed with different perspectives.

AL"The star of the night was A.L. who sang a mix of songs to an eager crowd."

A familiar face came in the form of Mr Midas, who some of you may remember a few years back from the Channel 4 documentary, ‘Musicool’ alongside Mz Bratt, literally jumped on the stage with full pelt. His energy didn’t wane as he performed dancehall songs ‘Try to Make Me’ and ‘Disarmed’ running up and down the stage. Midas’ vibe was infectious and his smile constant, which made the audience loosen up.

However, the star of the night was A.L. who sang a mix of songs to an eager crowd. She captured the essence and tone with each performance through her voice, dance and energy. Each song brought something new and different, causing some people to skank to the beat. A.L proved herself ten times over and I can definitely say that if you weren’t a fan before, you definitely are now, purely because of the amount of talent she brought to the stage.

KG and Marston"Industry Takeover is the event to get a step up on the ladder!"

The hosts KG and Marston got the crowd going with their wit and humour especially when they picked on some people in the front row who had snuck in chicken and chips. The duo used their rapport and comedic timing to make fun of artists in the scene - no one was safe. One of the funniest moments was when KG and Marston were forced on stage by MC Versatile to be his backing dancers, but they quickly leapt off stage and made their escape. The night ended with the open mic competition and DJ Zig Zag playing out to a crowd eager to network.

If you were unfortunate to miss out on The Launch, don’t worry because you’ve got the next instalment to look forward to. Giving emerging artists the chance to showcase their talents or to simply get an insight from those already established in the industry, Industry Takeover is the event to get a step up on the ladder!
