MY TAKEOVER: Edwina Dan embraces the Industry Takeover laws of power!
Since my introduction to Urban Development I could sense I was about to embark on something big. I wasn't quite sure what, but I knew it would be a remarkable journey. It started with Re:Definition last year, which was my first experience of a UD event. As successful and enjoyable as the night was, I knew things would get bigger and better and indeed I was right.
Industry Takeover was undoubtedly the biggest series of events I have had the pleasure of being a part of. I was unfortunately only able to attend a couple of meetings, but that did not deter me. I felt as much a part of the team as everyone else and preached and promoted the UD word at every opportunity.
I arrived at Rich Mix at 9am for the Industry Takeover All-Day Seminar & Showcase on Saturday, 6th March 2010. I was greeted by the ever-welcoming Fusion and given my first task of the day. I hit the streets of Shoreditch with another UD creative to do some last minute flyering. We ventured around E1 on foot spreading the word (and flyers) before returning back to Rich Mix exhausted! It was my first time in that venue and on arrival I could see that it was definitely a large-scale occasion. The vibes were great all day, the music was on point and the people were insightful.

"Having Robert Greene live was definitely a highlight. I bought The 50th Law that night, at a discounted rate and it's already proving to be beneficial." Edwina
If you weren't there you definitely missed out! The networking opportunities were off the chain! Attendees had the pleasure of rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ras Kwame (BBC 1xtra), Chantelle Fiddy (RWD mag, Ctrl+Alt+Shift), Terror Danjah (DJ/producer for Kano, Roll Deep, Tinchy Stryder), Twin B (BBC 1xtra) to name a few. My favourite moment was the Underground to Overground Seminar. The hosts (Lady Jay and Nonny) did a great job and the panel was enlightening and funny. The entire venue from top to bottom was buzzing with UD people - it truly was a Takeover!
The last event of the season was the Who, Where, What Seminar with 50th Law discussion. Once again, a good turnout and a great panel. Having Robert Greene live was definitely a highlight. I bought The 50th Law that night, at a discounted rate (UD hookup!) and it's already proving to be beneficial. All in all, Industry Takeover was amazing! There will never be anything like it and I'm glad I was a part of it. I simply cannot wait for the next project!
