I have always been a supporter of forward moving initiatives so, as a lover of good music, it comes as no surprise that my involvement merely as a spectator at Urban Development’s launch party for Industry Takeover Pt 2, sparked my imagination. It’s always inspirational to see young and creative minds focused on a positive common goal.

The event and organisation as a whole typifies exactly what the name suggests – Urban Development. When I stepped into Stratford Circus, I was greeted with warmth and surprisingly efficient organisation - from the reception and queuing system through to the beautifully poised atmosphere inside the venue. All aspects were governed and expertly managed by the UD Creatives, Urban Development’s youth team. This brought me much joy and a sense of pride that, despite the negative perception and often misrepresentation of ‘urban’ youths, there are focused and highly motivated individuals with the will power to make a change.

The night ran smoothly with the transition of various forms of positively driven artists with diverse talents, all set against a backdrop of musical orchestration conducted by the band.

An event like this is important for all upcoming young entrepreneurs, artists and creative minds from all walks of life, as it gives us the platform to not only showcase our talents, but also to associate with like minded individuals. Being at the event for a little over an hour, I was overwhelmed by the degree of networking I was able to immerse myself in and realised what a wealth of contacts such events could potentially create.

After the event, not only did I walk out feeling elated and inspired from my many conversations, I felt enriched by the sounds of the new generation taking to the stage. Witnessing these acts sharing their passion and creative expressions, while honing and propagating their skills, further solidified my purpose and re-affirms my belief that good music is alive and well.
