THIS IS WHO WE THINK WE ARE

This Is Who We Think We recruited 50 young people aged 14-19 to explore the post-World War Two migration of Caribbean And African People to East London. During the project, participants research local history, dance, song and music using local museums, archived and libraries.

Week one of the project began with an exploration of cultural heritage via a series of oral history classes, delivered by respected guest speakers in the world of film, dance and music. Afternoon workshops encouraged participants to interpret information, share ideas and engage in activities to develop a strong team ethos and a clear understanding of the project.

The creative Spark was ignited in week two, as the group split into specialist areas to develop material for performance. Each day concluded with a collective sharing session. The final week focused on refining ideas and weaving together the various performance pieces in preparation for the show.

The project features a live performance at Stratford Circus 23rd August 2008, as a part of London-Benjing olympic Handover Ceremonies
