2000 – Western swing pioneer Adolph Hofner dies at his home in San Antonio. He is 84.

1999 – Junior Braithwaite, one of the original members of Bob Marley’s Wailers, is shot and killed in Kingston, Jamaica. He is 47.

2005 - Bluegrass vocalist Jimmy Martin dies of bladder cancer in Nashville at the age of 77.

1998 - Frank Sinatra dies of a heart attack in Los Angeles at the age of 82.

1998 - Singer George Michael pleads no contest in Beverly Hills Municipal Court to committing a lewd act in a park restroom.

1988 - Jazz trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker dies.

2008 - Rapper Remy Ma is sentenced to eight years in prison for assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion in conjunction with the shooting of a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub.

2007 - Rock legend Bo Diddley is hospitalized after a concert in Council Bluffs, Iowa, during which he appears disoriented. He is placed in intensive care at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., after suffering a stroke.

2008 - Madonna breaks Elvis Presley's 37-year record for the most Billboard Top 10 singles by an artist. "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake, becomes her 37th Top 10 hit. She had tied Elvis' record in 2005 with Top 10 hit No. 36, "Hung Up."

2000 - Bo Diddley filed suit against Nike for using his name and image without permission. Nike is accused of continuing to use his image after a contract expired in 1991.
