RE:DFINITION: MPHO IS TALKING ABOUT AN EVOLUTION

MPHO is one of Urban Development’s success stories. Recently signed to EMI/Parlophone, she is a genre-defying singer, songwriter and producer with enormous global pop potential.

“I couldn’t define myself via all the other genre options available; I’m not hip hop, rock or R&B, and I don’t make grime or garage or breakbeat,” stated MPHO in a recent RWD interview. “When you’re an artist, you want as many people as possible to hear what you do and have access to the thoughts that you put into you songs, and I guess pop music does that.”

Urban Development ‘s support during her critical early stages of development gave MPHO the space and confidence to fend off preconceptions and dip into a variety of soundscapes.

“Urban Development signed me and we did the Documented EP and then they helped me move onto Wall Of Sound,” says says of the Stratford, London based set-up. “Urban Development helps people to see the bigger picture, with workshops, seminars and courses and all for free.”

Today, MPHO’s forthcoming ‘Pop Art’ album is one of the most exciting releases of 2009 and Re:Definition is the perfect occasion to celebrate her coming of age.
