JOOLS HOLLAND GETS COCKY WITH BURSARY WINNER
Okay, we couldn't resist a pun, but it's not every day that a UMB artist graces the stage of Mr Holland's prestigious music showcase. The Hackney gal, currently being mentored by Urban Development, put on a shimmering black frock to rock a wicked rendition of 'On My Own Again'.
thecocknbullkid (known to her family as Anita Blay) writes all her own songs and produces a number of them too. The 23 year-old singer is beginning to make quite a name for herself... and is keen to point out that the name holds no apostrophies (genuine fans take note).
Her slot on Later With Jools Holland is quite a coup, as The Bullish One finds herself in esteemed company. Bloc Party return to the Later studio to perform tunes from their new third album 'Intimacy' and Jakob Dylan, son of Bob, pops into the studio with songs from his self-titled solo debut. Mali's Amadou and Mariam, whose new album has been touched by the hand of Mr Damon Albarn, perform while Allen Toussaint, one of the most influential figures in New Orleans R&B, performs at the piano. And Battle's own Keane return fresh and clean with their most acclaimed album to date, 'Perfect Symmetry'.
