In the lead-up to his performance at RE:Definition (BUY TICKETS HERE) we caught up with up & coming singer/songwriter and former X-Factor contenstant Abel Miller to talk music…

Can you give me three words to describe your sound?

I’d say soulful, smooth and I’d say unique as well.

What musical styles and artists have influenced your music?

I’d say Usher plays a big part in what I do. From the more old school generation, I’d say Sam Cooke as well. I listen to Tank a lot; he’s a great singer. Brandy as well. In terms of musical styles, Gospel inspires me a lot actually. I kinda grew up in church, singing, so that’s played a major part in my music. R’n’B is also a big influence on me.

If you could remix any song, what would it be?

At the moment, I’d probably remix ‘Marvin’s Room’ by Drake. I feel to remix that one!

What’s your favourite remix, ever?

‘She Ain’t You’ by Chris Brown. That’s big. That’s a big remix. Not ever maybe, but at the moment, for sure.

If you could cover any song with any two artists on the ReDef line-up, what would it be, who with and why?

I’d do ‘Look At Me Now’ by Chris Brown featuring Busta Rhymes and Lil’ Wayne. I’d use Scrufizzer and Ghetts. They’ve both got that fast flow when they spit, kinda like the original.

If you had to choose a song that describes your personality, what would it be?

I’d probably say one of my own songs. It’s called ‘Troublesome’. It’s not out yet, but it’s probably what best describes me at the moment.

What are your most memorable/favourite lyrics from a song?

Ok, when I go to talk to girls, I always have ‘What Yo’ Name Is’ by Mario in my head. “… Girl, I been watching you, for a very long time…” That’s my favourite line. Or Bobby Valentino’s ‘Slow Down’ “… Slow down, I just wanna get to know you…” I like those two.

If you could refix a TV show theme tune, which programme would you choose?

I’d remix Eastenders, I think!

If you had the chance to own any artist’s back catalogue, whose would it be?

Usher! I love all the stuff that he does.
