INTERVIEW: Sleeping Spartan (Studio Sessions) - Kozzie

To celebrate the launch of the newly built state-of-the art recording and rehearsal studios at Urban Development, UDHQ invited our favourite Spartan, Kozzie, down to the studio to record a track or two, talk falling asleep in studio and tips you on studio-necessities…

So Spartan (you don’t mind if we call you Spartan right?) What are you up to today at UDHQ?

I came up here with P (Money) and Merky (Ace) to record a remix to P Money – Blackberry, the beat is sick (Produced by Faze Miyake) so look out for that track. Wonder was on the buttons, me, P and Merky on the track – madness.

So are Urban Development in your good books right now?

Yeah man it’s a good thing still. I went to the Industry Takeover All-Day Seminar & Showcase and I can see you pushing the new people in the scene as well as established artists, it’s a really good thing you’re doing down here.

And what do you think of the studio?

It’s a big help not everyone can get studio time, not everyone likes paying for studio and sometimes people end up in s*** studios because of that. Recording good tunes in a proper studio is a good look, and that’s exactly what Urban Development has set up here.

What are three things you need when recording in the studio?

A drink, a good Engineer, and a good Mic.

Any personal essentials?

Um. Food and I need to smoke and I need headphones, from there I can just make music.

Have you ever fallen asleep in studio?

Once me and Merky fell asleep on the table in studio. We were sleeping till about 9am the next day it was mad.

Did you snuggle?

[Laughs] Nah, nah. But he talks in his sleep and Ego snores!

Classic. If you could work with anyone, dead or alive, in the studio who would it be?

Jay-Z. Legend.

And what have you got coming up for us?

My single Spartan Remix is out now on iTunes and it’s got a video to it. I got another single called “I’m Famous” that will be out on iTunes very soon and I got my album “The Problem’s Started” which will be out June 27th.
