LIVE REVIEW: Demons Never Die Premier

Press list sorted, plus one missing.  Oh well that’s how life goes sometimes right? Monday 10th October was a red carpet affair marking the premiere of  ‘Demons Never Die’. With Idris Elba co producing the Arjun Rose film, Bea Alessio stuck her heels on and headed up that red carpet to find out what all of the fuss is about.

Starring N-Dubz and X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, Misfits hottie Robert Sheehan, Ashley Walters and Reggie Yates, the urban horror film gathered a big bunch of die-hard fans and paparazzi outside the Odeon in Leicester Square. Jessie J, Idris Elba and Yasmin were just few of the stars to attend Arjun Rose’s film screening.

Walk quickly past the flashes, (obviously not flashing for me) I grabbed a glass of champagne and silently tried to find a seat in the almost packed out room.

Movie time. Introduced by the video for the official soundtrack of the film, Dionne Bromfield ‘Ouch’ featuring Mz Bratt, ‘Demons Never Die’ follows the lives of eight teenagers bonded by a deadly pact: they agreed to end their existence together.  Sharing the vision of suicide as the only solution to bring their sufferance to an end, the group of students brings diverse, likable and slightly stereotypical range of characters to the table.

Archie (Robert Sheenan), tormented by his vivid nightmares, and his goth girlfriend Jasmine (Jennie Jacques) are assigned the main roles delivering remarkable performances throughout the film and its most dramatic scenes.

Kenny (Jason Maza) is the one who had the audience bursting out laughing several times with his “pars” aimed to the overweight fellow suicidal James (Jack Doolan), who comes across as the weakest one of the group, and his obsessive nature.

Bringing the feel of a UK version of ‘Friday’, Sachin (Jacob Anderson) blazes up each scene and provides some humour to his part, which, alongside Anuvahood star Femi Oyeniran brings the element of real life into the movie, with realistic characters and storylines to add to their natural comical genius.

As the story unfolds their mass suicide plans are ruined by a ‘Hannibal Lecter meets Jason’ masked killer who wants them dead.

Although repetitive to some extent and with few avoidable clichés (i.e. Blair Witch Project inspired scene could have been left out), ‘Demons Never Die’ is far from boring and Arjun Rose can consider himself a proud daddy. In fact, the suspense is palpable throughout the 90 minutes until the final twist which perfectly does its job.

With no Hollywood budget and being Rose’s first official creation, the film contains a good mixture of horror/shocking scenes and “laugh out loud” moments. Definitely a quality cast for the urban horror.

Demons Never Die is out in cinemas on October 28th.

The soundtrack featuring Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks and an exclusive Wretch 32 and John Osho’s collaboration, is out now. Purchase it from here: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=366820
