LIVE REVIEW: Cleo Sol @ YoYo
Another Thursday night, another epic evening lined up at the Notting Hill Arts Club. Courtney Buck went down to YoYo to see the performances from Birmingham’s own Lady Leshurr and West London native Cleo Sol.
Kicking off around 8.30, Lady Leshurr took to the stage. She announced that she wasn’t feeling very well, but she still wanted to go ahead with her set. Good on her, I say! She performed her world famous spin on Nicki Minaj’s Pissin’ On Em (Pizzin’ On Em), her cover of Chris Brown’s ‘Look at me now’ and her new single ‘Lego’. Lil’ Leshurr warmed up the crowd nicely, and got the good vibes going for the rest of the night with her typically high speed lyrical delivery.

During the intermission, the crowd inside YoYo swelled pretty quickly. The audience was a who’s who of the entertainment scene, including DJ Target & Manga of Roll Deep, Josh Osho, Clement Marfo, TV presenter Nick Grimshaw and UD alumni, Mikill Pane, Maverick Sabre, Donaeo and Island Records A&R Benny Scars.
Running slightly late (call it fashionably late), Cleo Sol took to the stage around 10.15. With her now trademark curly ‘fro and dressed in a leather jacket and hot pants, Cleo belted through her songs ‘Call For Me’ and ‘Free My Mind’. Guests were treated to a new song ‘Are You Ready’ and of course, current single ‘High’.
Overall, it was a great evening. Cleo Sol appears to have a really strong following already, and with a voice like hers, it’s not hard to understand why. It amazes me that young Cleo is still unsigned! She has an exceptional gift that needs to be seen and heard by the world. If you’ve been to YoYo before, you’ll know what to expect, but if not, get yourself down to the next one.
