Re:Definition Meets... Lovelle

In the lead-up to her performance at RE:Definition (BUY TICKETS HERE) we caught up with the cool, calm and collected R&B songstress (and Urban Development 'One To Watch 2011' act) that is Lovelle to talk music…

Three words to describe your sound?

Cool, honest and Lovelle.

What musical styles and artists have influenced your music?

Hip hop to rock to blues to soul to grime, but the one lady that influenced me big time has to be Amy Winehouse.

If you could remix any song what would it be?

It would definitely have to be Fugees - Killing Me Softly

What’s your favourite remix, ever?

All my remixes (laughs) but really it would have to be Tinie Tempah - Simply Unstoppable featuring Travis. The drums sound great.

If you could cover any song with any two artists on the ReDef line-up, what would it be, who with and why?

I'd say Amy Winehouse's What Is It About Men? with RoxXxan and Talay Riley. I can imagine Talay doing a cover referencing it to women. I think it would sound hard.

If you had to choose a song that describes your personality, what would it be?

My personality is skitso (laughs) I have so may different sides so Pink - Split Personality.

What are your most memorable/favourite lyrics from a song?

The last lyric I liked and put as my BB status was from Tinie Tempah - Simply Unstoppable. It goes "Disturbing London is the city where i'm from, where if we like the tune, we make the DJ rewind 'em".

What’s the most random idea for a song / lyric you have thought up?

I always write my songs on the bus which is a bit random, but I think everyone has liked a song where they don't know the words, so i'd write a song about not knowing the words - if you like it and don't know the words, then who cares?!

If you could refix a TV show theme tune, which programme would you choose?

I love Friends but I wouldn’t want to refix it, so Coronation Street with rapping and a hip hop beat would be jokes. Imagine Jay-Z doing something over it (laughs).

If you had the chance to own any artist’s back catalogue, whose would it be?

Obviously Michael Jackson, there’s no one else in the entire world. If anyone says he didn’t inspire them, then they’re stupid. All he did was promote good and positivity and all his songs meant something.
