Re:Definition Meets... Ghetts
In the lead-up to his performance at RE:Definition tonight (BUY TICKETS HERE) we caught up with one of the East End's infamous rapid-fire emcees and Urban Development regular, Ghetts to talk music…
Can you give me three words to describe your sound?
3 words...? Original, controversial and energetic. That describes my music best
What musical styles and artists have influenced your music?
Everything! Everything from grime to soul, soul to swing, swing to R&B to garage, drum & bass, dubstep, the list is endless. In terms of artists I’m inspired by a lot of people - Big L, Jay-Z obviousl. That list is endless too we’d be here all day.
What’s your favourite remix, ever?
I’d say Bone Thugs-n-Harmony & Mariah Carey – Breakdown. That’s one of my favourite remixes.
If you could cover any song with any two artists on the ReDef line-up, what would it be, who with and why?
I’d defiantly use Kane and Talay Riley, but I’m not really sure what song we’d do right now. These questions are hard! [Laughs]
If you had to choose a song that describes your personality, what would it be?
A tune called ‘Where are you now’ that I made. I think that describes me well.
What’s the most random idea for a song / lyric you have thought up?
“I never washed this mornin’, just armpits, balls and face…” That’s the maddest thing I ever thought of! [Laughs] But I did wash this morning though.
If you could refix a TV show theme tune, which programme would you choose?
Eastenders. I say that because I’m an east ender. It’s only right.
If you had the chance to own any artist’s back catalogue, whose would it be?
Stevie Wonder. That’s a lot of money!
