Trading Concerts for Couture

The influx of celebrity turned fashion designers is growing rapidly each year, with most celebrities across the spectrum dipping fingers into the fashion world pie, Abuk Joseph takes a look at the string of singers trading the stage for the runway...

The nations sweetheart Cheryl Cole, is the latest singer to tap into her fashionable side, following in the footsteps of her predecessor Victoria Beckham and leaving the girl band (Girls Aloud) to delve into the fashion world. Cheryl unveiled her shoe collection on the 6th of December at Stylist Pick, she has gone as far as modeling her own range, she's even named a few of them cool names; 'Ri Ri', paying homage to Rihanna and 'Your Royal Hotness', after Pippa Middleton (which, for your information isn't in fact a royal but cos we love you chezza we'll let that one slide)

Victoria Beckham, one of the most successful celebrity-turned-fashion-designer, with an array of celebrity friends promoting a simple yet elegant line titled Victoria Beckham. Singing was never her strong point so it's nice to see our very own Spice Girl being respected by the fashion industry showcasing her collections at New York Fashion week, and the only one featured in this article who hasn't (yet) modeled her range.

Rihanna done the smart thing by collaborating with internationally recognised fashion house Armani, designing a capsule collection for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans. Considering she hardly wears any clothes day to day, it was a shock to see her design some casual jeans and tee's. By going down the route of collaborating there isn't much for her to do in the process except give her input on designs and leave the rest to Armani's amazing design team.

Although associating your name with a fashion house doesn't always come as easy as it has done for people like Victoria Beckham. Beyonce is a prime example, she teamed up with her mother in 2004 to launch label House Of Dereon, unfortunately it didn't really take off as they anticipated at the beginning, it's only fans at the time seemed to be Destiny's Child, despite Beyonce fronting its campaigns. But seven years after their first collection, things are looking up as this season and they are receiving the international critical acclaim many brands long for, being sold in the UK exclusively in one of London’s most famous department store for fashion, Selfridges &Co.
